Dear Pioneer Families,
Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year!
There is new excitement this year as we renew our commitment to deliver the best education to our Pioneer students. Our Assistant Principal, Mr. Malone, and I am honored to work beside a dedicated and kind staff to support your child. We always begin by reflecting on the successes and challenges of the past, and then create new goals for our future. Having a growth mindset, learning through mistakes, and persevering through difficult moments are the key to achieving academic success. By combining our efforts and supporting our children in these endeavors together, they will be well prepared for college, career and life.
This school year, we are launching a Positive Behavior Intervention and Support Program (also known as PBIS) to help us build a positive school culture while improving parent engagement and student attendance. PBIS wil move us towards "expected behaviors" rather than direct punishment. You will also see a conversation about Kimochis in many of our tk-1 classrooms. This is a way of helping students identify the feelings in their bodies. Both PBIS and Kimochi, along with Restorative Justice and Mindfulness are some of the programs we use to support the social emotional development of our students.
We are also a school that believes in personalized learning and creating opportunities for students to develop 21st century skills! As a learning community, we appreciate the partnership of our Parent Teacher Club (PTC), parent run Art Vista Parent Group, our School Site Council (SSC), and our English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC)! We continue to deeply appreciate the support from the Pioneer community. Together let's celebrate the sounds of hope, optimism and enthusiasm for an outstanding year ahead.
